The last few weeks have brought a few changes to my work as an artist. I’d like to share them with you in this blog.
GETTING OUT MORE
I’ve mostly classed myself as a studio artist over the years with the occasional foray into the outdoors to paint. Whenever I’ve gone out to paint, I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere surrounding me which has added a quality to the process of the work.
I’ve now put into action a schedule where I paint plein air at least once a week somewhere in Dorset. So far I’ve been pleased with the results despite a few mishaps along the way. Below is a series of photographs showing a painting on location, the painting once a bottle of water broke loose and rolled happily backward and forward across it & finally the repaired painting although still with more work to do on it.
WORKSHOPS & DEMOS
Another area I’m currently developing is an interactive one involving workshops, or classes & demonstrations for groups.
People are often interested in the methods behind an artist’s work & although I’m not trying to get people to develop a specific style, what I do want to achieve is to inspire people to develop their own style and a yearning to experiment with different methods.
My work is mainly semi abstract so the feeling and energy put into a painting is what I want to encourage, not a blind copying from a photograph, trying to get an exact replica.
